A police constable named Monirul Islam (23) in Sirajganj has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of wife murder. Judge Erfan Ullah of the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge-1 gave this judgment today on Tuesday (November 21) at noon.
In the verdict, one more year of imprisonment without labor has been given without payment of a fine of 20,000 taka.

According to the charge sheet of the case, after joining the police force in 2018, the accused, Monirul Islam, got married to Surabhi Khatun, a neighbor, in a family affair. After marriage, Monirul Islam misbehaved and beat his wife Surbhi Khatun. In between, he developed an extramarital relationship with another woman. He used to tell his wife, ‘I didn’t like you. You commit suicide by drinking poison. Make my way clear.’
The charge sheet of the case also states that on August 27, 2020, Surbhi Khatun came to visit her father’s house. At night, Monirul called him on his mobile phone and asked him to come out of the house. Later he left with his wife. The next day on August 28 at noon, when Surbhi Khatun’s body was found floating in the water of the neighboring Nalu Mandal, the local informed her family. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and recovered his body.
Surveer’s father, Shafiqul Islam, who was killed in the incident, filed a case with the police station naming four people including Monirul Islam, his brother Monnaf Hossain and mother Moneka Begum. After investigating the case, the police charged Monirul Islam and submitted the charge sheet to the court on January 13, 2021.
During the course of the case, the court accepted the testimony of 23 witnesses. After the testimony, the judge sentenced Constable Munirul Islam to life imprisonment today.
