Local Chhatra League and Jubo League activists have been accused of beating up a journalist while gathering news in Dhanmondi area of ​​the capital. The name of the journalist who was beaten is Md. Nahid Hasan (Sabbir). He is the own correspondent of news portal Jago News.

The incident took place in front of Northern Medical College in Dhanmondi after 10 pm on Monday (November 20). After this incident, he filed a written complaint at Dhanmondi Model Police Station that night.

Eyewitnesses said that a group of 20 to 25 members of Chhatra League and Jubo League attacked a journalist at around 10 pm on Sunday. At that time, they were led by Dhanmondi New Model Degree College Chhatra League President Rakibul Islam and Dhanmondi Police Station’s Ward No. 15 Jubo League Deputy Propaganda Secretary Tamjid Rahman. At one point, they started beating the journalist Sabbir.

Victim journalist Nahid said, that day around 9:30 pm I went in front of Carey Plaza in Dhanmondi to gather news. Then when I called Rakibul Islam, leader of Chhatra League, he wanted to know my location. When I said I was in front of Northern Medical, he told me ‘coming in five minutes’. Then Rakibul comes there.

He said, later, under the leadership of Jubo League leader Tamjid, 20-25 people riding 10 to 15 motorcycles came and asked – who is the journalist here? By asking, they started beating them. They took away my mobile phone. If the journalist wants to show his identity card, he beats him even more. Later, he returned from the scene without any treatment at Dhaka Medical. The CCTV footage of the incident is the proof of everything.

Meanwhile, Rajibul Islam Bappi, president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra League, came to see the injured journalist that night immediately after the incident. At that time, he said, the attackers will be considered as criminals. After investigating the incident, if any of the leaders and activists of Dhaka Metropolis South Chhatra League are found to be involved, organizational action will be taken against them.

In this regard, Dhanmondi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Parvez Islam said, “I don’t know when something like this happened and when it happened.” As I don’t know anything yet, I can talk to you about it later.
