The police rescued the two and took them to the Shibchar Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared Mirjan Khalasi dead.
Two persons were beaten to death by mob while ‘running away after robbery’ in Madaripur’s Shibchar upazila. One person was injured in the robbery attack.
Later, the locals beat up two others on suspicion of robbery and handed them over to the police.
These incidents took place in the Bajitpur area of Banshkandi Union of the upazila in the early hours of Tuesday and in the morning, said OC Subrata Goldar of Shibchar police station.
The deceased are Mirjan Khalasi (42) and Hasmat Bepari (43).
Sagar Howladar (28) and Mustafa Kamal (65) were injured in the thrashing. Delwar Howladar was injured in the attack of robbers.
According to the local police, a group of five robbers first attacked Abdul Halim’s house in Bajitpur area on Tuesday morning. At that time, when the people of the house started shouting, the robbers ran away.
The bandits then raided the house of van driver Delwar Howladar in the same area. There they cut and injured him with sharp weapons and looted goods worth lakhs of rupees.
However, while fleeing, the locals chased Mirjan Khalasi and Hasmat Bepari and beat them up.
On receiving the information, the police along with SI Golzar Hossain went and rescued the two seriously injured and took them to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex. There the doctor declared Mirjan Khalasi dead. Mirjan is the son of deceased Abu Ali Khalasi of Sambuk area of Shibchar upazila.
Mainul Islam, medical officer of the health complex, said two people were brought to the hospital in the early hours. Mirjan Khalasi died before being brought to the hospital.
On the other hand, Hasmat Bepari was sent from Shivchar to Madaripur Sadar Hospital for better treatment and he died around noon.
Meanwhile, OC Subrata Goldar said that two more people were arrested with the help of locals in the morning, “Sagar Hawladar and Mustafa Kamal were arrested for suspicious behavior in the morning and handed over to the police by the locals.”
