Kolaghat, November 21: A gold merchant was shot dead on the national highway The miscreants dumped the gold merchant’s body on the road and took his bag full of money and sped away on a bike. The incident took place on Monday on National Highway No. 6 in Deulbar area of ​​Kolaghat police station area of ​​East Medinipur.

According to local sources, a gold merchant named Sameer Padiya was returning home by motorbike after closing his gold shop at around 9 pm. At that time, miscreants with three bikes blocked his way in Deulbard area of ​​Kolaghat National Highway No. 6. Then tried to snatch the money and gold bag from him. Then Sameer stopped the gold business. As he started to scream, he was shot and killed at close range.

The businessman fell down in the street. When the local residents came running, the miscreants made away with bags of money and gold. The injured gold trader was taken to the local health center where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead. Prashant Padiya, a local resident, said, “When Samir Padiya closed his gold shop and was returning home, the miscreants on three bikes came and blocked his way. Then they started firing randomly. Sameer was hit in the head. Then he fell on the ground.”

He further said, “Then those miscreants snatched gold and money bags from Sameer. After getting the news of this incident, we came and found the businessman lying on the national highway. The whole road was covered in blood. We immediately informed the police of Kolaghat police station.” A lot of excitement spread in the area based on this incident. Locals blocked the road in protest. The blockade was lifted when the police assured to take appropriate action. Anushka Maiti, officer-in-charge of Kolaghat police station, said, “What is the reason for the murder? An investigation has been started by the police.”
