10 electric pillars suddenly collapsed in Madanpur of Narayanganj on Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

Around 10 o’clock on Monday, the pillars suddenly collapsed with a loud noise. Several vehicles were damaged due to this.

Panic spread immediately after the accident. Traffic stopped.

There are differing accounts of how the electric pillars collapsed.

According to local eyewitness sources, the electric pillars collapsed one after another with a loud noise. Some pillars caught fire. During this time, many pillars were damaged by falling on buses and trucks.

Locals said that the cause of the pillar collapse was road renovation work. Many of the pillars have accidents due to soil removal from the bottom.

However, according to traffic police sources, after 10 pm, a car hit a power pole on the side of the highway. At that time, when it fell on the road, 10 more poles connected to its cable also fell on the road. At least 5 vehicles including buses, private cars and covered vans were damaged. But no one was injured.

After this incident, the electricity supply to the surrounding areas was immediately stopped. After the accident, there was a traffic jam on the highway.

Traffic on the road was stopped but no casualties were reported. However, at least 5 vehicles were damaged. The surrounding villages are without electricity.

Meanwhile, after getting information about this incident in the Madanpur area of the highway, members of various law enforcement agencies including the police reached the spot.

Traffic Police Shimrail Camp Incharge (TI) Sharfuddin said the incident took place when a car lost control and hit a pole. 10 poles fell on the road. At that time, some vehicles were damaged but no one was injured. Electricity supply is off in the vicinity. Due to diversion of traffic on Dhaka-Sylhet road, there has been no traffic jam so far.
