Armed Forces Day is today. On the occasion of the day, programs will be started with special prayers after Fajr prayers for the welfare and prosperity of the country and the development of the armed forces in the mosques of all cantonments, naval bases and air force bases of the country. On the occasion of the day, the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages.
The Inter-Services Public Relations Department (ISPR) said in a circular that the President and the Prime Minister will lay wreaths at Dhaka Cantonment’s torch-lighting ceremony today, November 21 morning, paying tribute to the memory of the members of the armed forces who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Great War of Independence. After that, Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hasan and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan will lay wreaths on behalf of their respective forces. The Prime Minister will exchange skills and spend some time with the three Army Chiefs and the Security Adviser at his own office designated for the Prime Minister in the Armed Forces Department located in Dhaka Cantonment.
Later, the army chiefs will pay a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban.
On the occasion of ‘Army Day-2023’, the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister will felicitate the heirs of Vir Shrestha and a select number of decorated freedom fighters and their heirs at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment. At this time, five army, three navy and three air force personnel will be awarded the peacetime rank for the year 2022-23 by the prime minister.
On the occasion of the celebration of the day, the Prime Minister has organized a reception at Senakunj of Dhaka Cantonment at 4 pm on this day. Among the notable invited guests in this reception are Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad, Chief Justice, former Presidents, Leader of Opposition in Parliament, former Chief Adviser, Ministers and Ministers of State and persons of this rank, Deputy Speaker, Foreign Ambassadors appointed to Bangladesh, Heads of International Organizations, Chief Election Commissioner and Elections. Commissioners, Justices, Cabinet Division Secretaries, Chief Secretaries, Members of Parliament of Dhaka, Former Military Officers, Former Chiefs of Army Staff, Freedom Award and Ekushey Medalists, Journalists, Educationists, Political and Eminent Persons, Heirs of All Heroes of the War of Independence, War of Independence and Post-Independence Titled officers/their successors, senior civil officers and serving and retired officers of the three forces residing in Dhaka area.
Meanwhile, various programs will be held in other army garrisons, naval and air force bases outside Dhaka to celebrate the day with due dignity. Specially equipped Navy ships in Dhaka, Khulna, Chandpur, Barisal and Chittagong will be stationed/anchored at nearby ghats for public viewing from 2 pm to sunset on November 21.
