The body of a housewife named Popi Begum (22) was recovered after just two months of marriage. The police found 3 injury marks under the snout of the dead puppy. She lived in a rented house with her husband Mithun Mia in Sheikhghat area under Kotwali police station.
On Monday (November 13) night, three people, including her husband Mithun and Vashur Suhail Mia, rescued Poppy and took her to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The arrested are Mithun Mia, son of deceased Salim Mia and his brother Suhail Mia of Jagannathpur, Moulvibazar.
It is known that Popi’s parents and relatives rushed to the hospital after receiving the news of death. At that time, the relatives of Popi caught Suhail and her husband Mithun and handed them over to the police.
Poppy’s father Alfu Mia said that his daughter was killed in a planned manner. He said, ‘Popi got married to Mithun about two months ago. Mithun used to torture my daughter after marriage. He came to our house to escape torture. Mithun took her to his house on Monday. He killed my daughter plannedly in the night itself. Poppy was the youngest among one brother and two sisters.
Kotwali police station OC Mohammad Ali Mahmud said that it is believed that the incident was planned. Poppy’s body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem. The two detained at the police station are being interrogated.
