A housewife named Najma Akhtar (30) died mysteriously in Machkandi village of Payarpur Union of Madaripur Sadar Upazila. The incident took place at the in-laws’ home on Monday evening.
The husband and in-laws have been accused of killing the housewife. Najma’s mother, who died in this incident, filed a written complaint at the Sadar Model Police Station on Tuesday afternoon. Najma’s in-laws are on the run since the incident.
According to the police station and local sources, Mustafa Munsi (45) of Machkandi village of Payarpur Union of Sadar Upazila was married to Najma Akter of Dudhkhali village ten years ago. Ever since the marriage, there was turmoil in the family over dowry. A court case was also filed about this a few years ago. After thinking about the child, Najma withdrew the case and started the family again. Despite this, the turmoil in the family did not decrease. He was admitted to Sadar Hospital when he became seriously ill due to torture yesterday. Later the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Najma’s mother Tahmina Begum said, “My daughter has been killed.” I want justice.
Hasina Akhtar, mother-in-law of deceased Najma said, ‘My son’s wife Najma was at her father’s house. Yesterday afternoon he came to our house after eating something poisonous. Later, he was taken to the hospital with the help of local people and died there. I hear Najma’s mother filed a false case in the name of my sons and daughters.’
Resident Medical Officer of Madaripur Sadar Hospital Dr. Nurul Islam said that the body has been post mortem. After receiving the report, it will be known how he died.
Madaripur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salauddin Ahmed said, a written complaint has been received in this incident. Legal action will be taken after investigation.
