5 people including school students were killed in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Feni, Jhenaidah and Meherpur.

Chittagong

2 people were killed in a road accident in Mirsrai Municipality area of ​​Chittagong.

The accident took place in front of Gulisthan Petrol Pump on Sufi Road at around 10:30 am on Tuesday. The deceased are the pick-up van driver Iqbal Hossain (32) and helper Md. Farid (32). Both of them are residents of Talbaria in Mirsrai Upazila of Chittagong.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Zorarganj Highway Police Station Sohel Sarkar said that the accident took place when a covered van traveling at high speed towards Chittagong hit the pickup van from behind in Mirsrai Municipality area. After the accident, the police covered van driver. Russell (33) was arrested. In this case, the process of filing a case is going on at Mirsrai police station.

Feni

1 person died in a road accident in Feni. Maulana Monir Ahmad Arshadi (55) was killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a passenger bus in Munsirhat area of ​​Feni-Parashuram road on Tuesday around 11:00 am.

He was the son of Maulana Chale Ahmed, a resident of North Daulatpur village of Fulgazi Upazila Sadar, Feni and was the imam of the mosque located at Ekram Chatwar intersection in front of Feni Sadar 250 Bed General Hospital.

Eyewitnesses said that the accident took place when he was going from home to his work place in an autorickshaw. Five people including him were injured when an autorickshaw collided with a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction in Munsirhat Bazar area.

The local people rushed forward and rescued the injured and took them to the hospital. When taken to the emergency department of Feni General Hospital, the doctor on duty declared Maulana Monir Ahmad Arshadi dead.

Fulgazi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Abul Hasim confirmed this information. He said that the legal process is ongoing in this incident.

Jhenaidah

A motorcycle rider was killed after being hit by a truck in Jhenaidah. The deceased’s name is Russell Ferdous (40). He is a resident of Shailkupa Upazila Bhatai Bazar area.

The accident took place near Nagarbathan Bazar on Jhenaidah-Chuadanga highway on Tuesday afternoon.

Eyewitness cow trader Anwar Hossain said, ‘I was going to Faridpur district by loading 16 cows in a truck from 9 mile market of Chuadanga district. On the way, when it reached the western side of Nagarbathan Bazar, the rear right wheel of the truck came off. At that time, two people were going towards Chuadanga on a motorcycle. The motorcycle hit the wheel of the truck and they were knocked down.’

One of the two occupants of the motorcycle died on the spot. Another person was sent to hospital with injuries.

DAD of Fire Service Abdus Salam said, ‘When informed by phone from the scene, the fire service personnel went there and recovered the body of one person. The body was sent to the morgue and Rajan was admitted to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital with injuries.

Shaheen Uddin, OC of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, said that no case has yet been registered in this incident.

Meherpur

A class IX student was killed in a road accident in Meherpur. Another person was injured.

The accident took place in Akubpur village of Meherpur Gangni upazila on Tuesday morning. Deceased Sayem Ali (16) son of Hasem Ali Biswas of Akubpur village of Gangni upazila. He was a ninth grade student of the local Haji Bharas Uddin Secondary School.

The injured Bakul Hossain (17) is the son of Anarul Ilam of the same village. He was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital.

Police and locals said that Sayem and his friend Bakul were going to Khalishakund village on a motorcycle in the morning. On reaching Akubpur road, their motorcycle collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

Locals quickly rescued the two injured and admitted them to Kushtia Medical College Hospital. Sayem died while undergoing treatment there around 12 noon.

Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tajul Islam told The Daily Star, ‘The truck involved in the accident has been seized from the scene. The driver and accomplice have been arrested.
