Mymensingh: A case has been filed against 26 people in connection with the death of a young man named Abdur Razzak Rakib (24) who was stabbed by Jubo League leaders and activists in Mymensingh. Rakib is the nephew of Abu Bakr Siddique Sagar, Agriculture and Cooperative Affairs Secretary of Mymensingh Metropolitan Awami League.

After seeing the CCTV footage of the incident on Sunday (November 12), the victim’s mother Hasi Akhter identified the accused and filed the case at Kotwali Model Police Station as the plaintiff.

The deceased’s uncle and Awami League leader Abu Bakkar Siddique Sagar confirmed the matter.

In the case, the names of 16 people, including the expelled member of the Jubo League, Shaon Parvez, have been mentioned. Except Shaon and Mazaharul Islam, the names and identities of the other accused are not known. Besides, 10 other unknown people have been accused in the case.

Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Kamal Akand said that an accused named Mazaharul Islam has been sent to jail through the court. Efforts are on to arrest the rest of the accused.

Earlier, the deceased’s family and local sources said that Sharif Ahmed, State Minister for Housing and Public Works, attended various events including Jubo League’s foundation anniversary in Tarakanda and Phulpur of the district on Saturday. Shawon Parvez, a resident of Mymensingh city’s Charpara and expelled leader of the Mahanagara Jubo League, and his staff attended these events with three separate Hyage cars. On their way back to Mymensingh city after the program at night, when they reached the toll plaza at China Mor, Shaun Parvez and his workers got into an argument with a truck driver about giving a side. At one point, Jubo League activists started beating the truck driver. At that time, when others including the local bus driver tried to stop them, the Jubo League activists got angry and ran away with stab wounds. Abdur Razzaq Rakib, Sadek Ali, Shahid Mia were injured in this. In this situation, when they were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, doctor Abdur Razzak declared Rakib dead. The two injured are Sadek Ali (32), son of Zayed Uddin of the same area, and Shahid Mia (40), son of deceased Akhtar Ali of Ward No. 33 Char Jhaugara area. They are bus drivers by profession.
