Symbolic imageA Bangladeshi youth named Nurul Haque (20) died while bringing coal illegally from the Indian side across the Baliaghat border in Tahirpur, Sunamganj. Two others were injured at this time.
The incident took place in the Indian part adjacent to pillar 1197 of Lakma area of Baliaghat border in the upazila at 9 am on Sunday. Later, after an hour of effort, the local villagers brought Nurul Haque’s body home from inside the stolen coal cave at Zero Point of the Indian border at 10 am.
The deceased youth is the son of Khalek Mia of Lakma Paschim Par near the border of North Sreepur Union of Upazila. The names of the injured could not be known till the writing of this report.
According to local and BGB sources, this morning a group of 7-8 coal workers including Nurul Haque went to collect coal in the Chorai coal cave (coal quarry) located on the Indian border in Lakma area adjacent to the 1197-pillar of Balighat border. Later at 9 am when he was coming out of the cave with a sack of cotton, the soil of the cave collapsed and fell on Nurul Haque, killing him on the spot. At that time, two other coal workers who were with Nurul Haque were injured.
The other workers who were with him came out of the cave and informed Nurul Haque’s family members. Later, the family of the deceased along with the villagers rescued the body of the deceased Nurul Haque from inside the cave at 10 am after trying for about an hour and brought it home.
On the other hand, a young man named Rubel Mia (20) entered Shivpur area of India illegally through the 1200 pillar of Takkerghat border on Monday morning. He was arrested by the BSF while bringing sacks of coal. He is the son of Abdul Motalib of Rajniline village on the border of North Baradal Union of Rubel Upazila.
Tahirpur police station (OC) Mohammad Nazim Uddin confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the police was sent to the spot after receiving the information. Accidents like this often happen when smuggled to India to bring coal. So strict action will be taken by our police to prevent any such accident from happening after today. A youth named Rubel Mia of Rajniline village was abducted by BSF.
Sunamganj 28-BGB battalion captain Lt. Colonel Md. Mahbubur Rahman said that the body has been recovered. The report will be prepared and sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
