BGB arrested three youths along with 12 gold bars from Benapole border in Jessore.
Three youths have been detained with gold bars weighing about one and a half kilograms at Benapole border of Sharsha Upazila of Jessore; Those traffickers call BGB.
Commander of Khulna 21 BGB Battalion Lt. Col. Mohammad Khurshid Anwar said that an operation was conducted in the Krishnapur area of Daulatpur border of the upazila on Sunday morning.
The arrested are Ajmir Hossain (20), Jalal Uddin (37) and Nuruzzaman (38) of Putkhali village under Benapole Port Police Station of Jessore.
According to the BGB, the seized gold bars were being carried by three youths for smuggling to India.
Lt. Col. Khurshid Anwar said that the BGB patrol increased surveillance at the Daulatpur border of the upazila after receiving information about gold smuggling in India.
At that time BGB saw three youths coming from Benapole towards Daulatpur on a motorcycle. They tried to run away when they were asked to stop as they were suspects. Then BGB chased them and arrested them.
“Later their bodies were searched and 12 gold bars were found. One kilogram of recovered gold weighs 399 grams; The estimated market value of which is 1 crore 25 lakh 98 thousand taka.
Lt. Col. Khurshid Anwar informed about the transfer of the detainees to the Benapole Port Police Station and said that the seized gold bars have been deposited in the treasury branch of Jessore Customs.
