The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two more people in connection with the killing of policeman Constable Amirul Haque Parvez in the violence surrounding the BNP rally on October 28.
The arrested are – Feni District Youth Party President Zakir Hossain Jasim and Chapainawabganj District Chhatra Dal President Md. Yusuf Ali.
RAB-7 and RAB-5 raided Feni and Chapainawabganj Sadar area from Saturday (November 11) night to Sunday morning and arrested them.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB’s legal and media wing, said they were identified and arrested after reviewing the CCTV camera footage of the police killing on October 28.
He said that Chapainawabganj District Chhatra Dal President conducted a raid in Chapainawabganj Sadar area on Saturday (November 11). Yusuf Ali was arrested by a team of RAB-5. On the same day, a team of RAB-7 arrested Zakir Hossain Jasim, the president of Feni District Jubo Dal, in a raid in Feni Sadar area.
He also said that legal action against the arrested is under process.
On October 28, during the general meeting of BNP in Naya Paltan, the party workers clashed with the police in Kakrail. Later it spread to the surrounding area. Police constable Amirul Haque Parvez was beaten to death in that clash.
In this incident, SI Masuk Miah of Mirpur Division of Detective Police registered a case against 164 people including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Paltan police station that night.
It is stated in the statement of the case that the plaintiff along with other policemen were on duty at the eastern end of Calvert Road of Paltan police station on October 28, in view of the mass gathering of BNP. ‘Thousands’ of activists of BNP and allied organizations attacked them around 3:30. Several policemen including ADC (DB-Wari Zone) Ilyach Hossain, Constable Amirul Haque were injured in the brick pelting.
At that time, when Amirul Haque tried to enter the DR Tower in ‘self-defence’, the BNP activists threw him on the road and hit him on various parts of his body with bricks and sticks. Amirul was lying on the road in a serious bleeding condition. The attackers fled when the police threw tearshells and sound grenades. When Amirul was later taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical, the doctor declared him dead.
