Police have arrested Fulnahar Akhter Koli (22), wife of Shaheen’s elder brother, on the charge of hacking bride Jharna Akhtar (18) to death at her father’s house in Comilla’s Nangalkot.

On Sunday afternoon, the accused was sent to Comilla jail through the court. Earlier on Saturday night, police arrested seven people including Fulnahar.

The deceased Jharna is the daughter of Abdul Jalil, a tea shopkeeper of Kendra village in Nangalkot municipality.

The arrested are Kohinur Akhtar, mother of Fulnahar Akhtar and wife of Mir Hossain of Satbaria village of Upazila, Khuki Akhtar, daughter of Khokon of Kendra village and girlfriend of deceased Jharna, his brother Mohammad Paran, Gol Rehan, daughter of Shafiqur Rahman of the same village.

It is known that on October 16, Jharna got married to his brother-in-law, Delwar Hossain, the son of Eyachin, a resident of Jodda, on a mobile phone. On Saturday (November 11) evening, Zainal Abedin’s wife, who lives next to Abdul Jalil, went to the shop and informed Abdul Jalil after hearing a fight inside the house. He came and found his daughter bleeding. Hearing her screams, the locals rescued Jharna and took her to the Nangalkot Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.

Jharna’s father, Abdul Jalil, filed a murder case with Nangalkot police station accusing unknown persons.

Nangalkot Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Saiful Islam Sikder said that the victim’s sister Phulnahar Akhter Koli has been sent to the court due to her involvement in the murder.
