The court sentenced a youth named Gopal Chauhan (22) to death for killing his mother in Bogra. Additional District and Sessions Judge of Bogra Habiba Mondal gave this verdict on Sunday (November 12) afternoon.
Gopal Chauhan is the son of deceased Jagdish Chauhan of Nataipara area of Bogra city.
Confirming the verdict, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Vinay Kumar Ghosh Rajat told Dhaka Post that Gopal killed his mother Sonia Chauhan (65) at her home on the night of February 6, 2020. In the morning after the murder, Gopal himself appeared at the police station. Later the police recovered the body of Sonia Chauhan. In this incident, Mithun Chauhan, the eldest son of the deceased, filed a murder case as the plaintiff. Later on February 8, Gopal gave a confessional statement under section 164.
APP also said that Gopal used to do nothing but wander from temple to temple. His father died when he was young. Gopal thinks that his mother Sonia killed his father. Gopal went home on the day and night of the incident. His mother was sleeping then. At that time, Gopal strangled the mother by strangling her with a thick thread. After a long judicial process, the court gave this verdict today.
