Big accident in Uttarakhand on the day of Diwali. The tunnel under construction collapsed. At least 36 workers are trapped inside the tunnel. SDRF team has already reached the spot. According to SDRF sources, there are enough oxygen cylinders for the workers in the tunnel.
36 workers were trapped in a tunnel landslide in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi. It is initially known that the incident happened due to a landslide. Road construction work is going on on Yamunotri National Highway. A tunnel is also being constructed within its reach from Silkayara to Dandalgaon. After receiving the information, the rescue team quickly reached the spot. Efforts are underway to get the workers out of the tunnel.
According to the information, more than 36 workers were working inside the tunnel. Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Office has confirmed the accident. The officials who reached the spot said that the rescue operation of the workers has already started. Efforts by SDRF and rescue teams are underway to remove the debris. Five ambulances have been deployed at the scene along with the local police.
ADG Law and Order AP Angshuman said that no casualty has been reported so far. SDRF and other rescue teams reached the spot. The accident happened around 5 am on Sunday morning. The landslide occurred 200 meters from the tunnel entrance towards Silkira. He said that many workers were working there at that time. The length of this tunnel constructed under the Allweather Road project will be four and a half kilometers, of which four kilometers have been completed. The tunnel was targeted to be completed in September 2023 but as it was not completed on time, the tunnel has been targeted for completion in March 2024.
