A European Union (EU) delegation is coming to Dhaka today to see how much progress Bangladesh has made according to the national action plan for the development of the labor sector. It is known that there will be six members in this team. They are scheduled to stay in Bangladesh for five days.

An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the media on Tuesday that the visit of the delegation is scheduled to meet with three secretaries and some ministers. There is a possibility of discussion on various aspects related to labor. They will review and discuss the progress of implementation of NIP for labor sector development.

The EU delegation is coming to Dhaka when the agitation is going on for minimum wages and various demands of the workers in the garment industry sector made in the country. Therefore, it is expected that the minimum wage of workers will be discussed in the meetings of the delegation during the visit.

The delegation will be led by Paula Pampaloni, EU Deputy Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific.

It is known that the delegation will be the secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment on November 15. Ehsan Elahi will meet with Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti Ghosh.

Law Minister Anisul Haque, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs. The delegation is also scheduled to have a courtesy call on Shahriar Alam and Minister of State for Labor Mnujan Sufian. Besides, the delegation is likely to visit some garment factories in Dhaka and talk to labor leaders.
