Death of a player during a match
Sports Desk: Ghana international footballer Raphael Doamena has died after collapsing during a match. He was 28 years old at the time of his death. News CNN.
According to a report by the international media CNN on Saturday (November 11), the Ghana Football Association confirmed the news of Doamena’s death in a statement.
Raphael Doamena represented Ghana wholeheartedly, the association said in a statement. He paid his dues to the country until his unfortunate death. He will be forever missed for his dedication to the National Course.
May Rafael rest in peace, the association said in a statement. Besides, the association expressed its condolences to his family. However, no official death details have been released.
CNN also reported that Doamena collapsed 24 minutes into the Albanian top division match between KF Egnatia and Partizani on Saturday.
Video footage posted on X (which was formerly Twitter) showed Doamena collapse on the pitch. Players from both teams rushed to his side. He is being taken away by medical staff in an ambulance brought to the pitch.
Incidentally, Doamena collapsed during a match between his then team Blau-Weiss Linz and Hartberg in the Austrian Cup in October 2021. Doamena played for clubs in Spain, Switzerland, Austria and Denmark during his career.
