Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered to determine the price of electricity and water depending on the area and income. At the same time, he also said about coming out of the subsidy gradually.
He gave this instruction at the National Economic Council Executive Committee (ECNEC) meeting at Shere-Bangla Nagar NEC meeting room in the capital on Thursday (November 9).
Prime Minister presided over the meeting. Planning Minister MA Mannan gave detailed information at the end of the meeting.
The Planning Minister said that the Prime Minister has talked about getting out of the subsidy gradually. I am a minister, it is not right if a day laborer gets the same subsidy that I get for water and electricity. So the Prime Minister talked about fixing water-power prices area wise and income wise (depending on area and income).
He said that the Prime Minister said that the subsidy should be fair. At the rate I’m paying, a low-income person is paying the same subsidy – it doesn’t. Gradually we have to get out of the idea of subsidy. Area wise water and electricity prices should be determined.
Apart from this, the Prime Minister ordered to be careful in construction of tall buildings in Dhaka, so as not to fall into air funnels and to dig reservoirs along the roads. In the meeting, the Prime Minister ordered to promote the universal pension more vigorously across the country.
