The court ordered life imprisonment for 14 people including six brothers in Bhola murder case in Joypurhat. At the same time each of them was fined 10,000 taka. In default, an additional year of imprisonment was ordered. District and Sessions Judge Court’s senior judge Noor Islam announced this verdict on Thursday afternoon.
Jaipurhat District and Sessions Judge Court Public Counsel Nripendranath Mondal confirmed the truth of the verdict.
The convicts are Abdul Mannan, Chanwar Hossain, Sahaj Hossain, Anwar Hossain, Delwar Hossain and Riaz Uddin of Harendra village of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila. They are about brothers.
Besides, Ramzan Ali and Abdul Wahab, Farooq Hossain, Dulo and Abdul Khalek, Shahjahan, Shafiqul Islam and Anichur Rahman of the same village.
Brief details of the case and court sources revealed that on May 5, 2003, four brothers along with Bhola went to Harendra village of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat with a tractor to cultivate a field near their house. On that day, around 1.30 am, the convicts in the case came towards them with pistols and native weapons.
At one stage they cut Bhola with an ax and injured him. At that time, when the other brothers screamed, they were threatened with a pistol on their foreheads. Later, Bhola was admitted to Mahipur Upazila Health Complex of Panchbibi with serious injuries. As his condition deteriorated there, he died on the way to Jaipurhat Modern District Hospital.
In this incident, the younger brother of the victim, Dola Mandal, became the plaintiff and filed a murder case on November 6, mentioning the names of 25 people at the Panchbibi police station.
Later, the investigating officer of the case, SI Abdus Sattar, filed the charge sheet in the court on April 30, 2004. After a long hearing and all legal proceedings, the judge gave this verdict today.
Advocate Nripendranath Mondal PP handled the case for the plaintiff and Shahidul Islam handled the case for the accused.
