Life sentence for 14 people in murder case

After 20 years of the Bhola Mondal murder case in Joypurhat, the court sentenced 14 people to life imprisonment. Besides, each of them was fined Tk 10,000 and sentenced to one year imprisonment in default.
District and Sessions Judge Senior Sessions Judge Noor Islam passed the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
The house of the convicts is in Harenda area of Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat. One of them is absconding.
According to the details of the case, Bhola Mandal, son of Abdus Sattar Mandal of Harenda village of Panchbibi Upazila, was engaged in the business of cultivating land with power tillers. On July 5, 2003, Bhola went to the field to cultivate the land with his driver Mir Shahid. That night, when he told home that he had to cultivate more land, his other three brothers went to the field with food. At that time, the four brothers spread their beds on the neighboring house and fell asleep after eating bhola food while letting the power tiller run. That night as per pre-planned the accused attacked them with weapons. Bhola was seriously injured by the assault of the accused and the injury of the native weapon. After that, he was rescued and brought to Jaipurhat District Modern Hospital where he died. In this incident, the brother of the deceased, Dola Mandal, filed a murder case at Panchbibi police station the next day. After a long hearing of this case, the learned court gave this verdict today.
