3 policemen have been recalled for the alleged killing of poultry trader Nurul Islam in Burumadi village of Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj.
In this incident, the son-in-law of the deceased on Tuesday afternoon. Zahidul Islam filed a wrongful death case in Sonargaon police station as the plaintiff. He was buried at the social cemetery on Tuesday without a post-mortem as the family did not make any complaint about his death. This fact was confirmed by Shilpi Akhter, the daughter of deceased Nurul Islam.
However, the police claim that the deceased Nurul Islam is a professional drug dealer. He was not tortured in any way. He died of natural causes after suffering a stroke.
Meanwhile, the three policemen who raided Nurul Islam’s house on Tuesday were withdrawn and attached to the Narayanganj police line. Narayanganj District Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Chailau Marma confirmed the matter.
Shilpi Akhtar and Mithila Akhtar, daughters of deceased Nurul Islam, said that their father died naturally. They have no complaint against anyone. At one stage of the conversation, they said that the matter was settled in the night itself. Don’t want to talk about it anymore.
Local residents said that the deceased Nurul Islam was once a poultry trader. When the police came to Nurul Islam’s house on Monday afternoon, some people including his younger brother Shamsul Alam and neighbor Imran were present there. Nurul Islam was once involved in drug trade. After his open heart surgery three years ago, he retired from the business. However, he could not leave this business completely. He had an affinity with the police. However, members of the Taltala police outpost used to visit his house regularly. Taltala outpost Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Elias Ahmed, Constables Abul Kalam and Ruknuzzaman entered Nurul Islam’s house in plain clothes last Monday around 2 pm. After some time, screams were heard in Nurul Islam’s house. Later the villagers came running to his house.
Several persons who did not wish to be named said that the police demanded a sum of one lakh taka from Nurul Islam’s family members. Nurul Islam was threatened with arrest in the ongoing political case if he did not pay the money. His wife first gave 10 thousand, then another 9 thousand. After taking the money, the police released Nurul Islam’s handcuffs and left the house. After the police went, Nurul Islam was found lying in bed inside his building. His two daughters called him and found him no longer speaking. After that, when he was taken to Araihajar Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty there declared him dead.
Local residents also said that Nurul Islam had a scuffle with the police before leaving the house. After this incident, angry residents and relatives blocked three policemen in a room. Later after being blocked for 5 hours around 7 pm Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (K-Zone) Sheikh Billal Hossain and Sonargaon Police Station OC Mahabub Alam brought them out of the blocked situation.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Narayanganj-3 Constituency, Jatiya Party Presidium Member, Dhaka Division Additional Secretary General and Jatiya Swachhasebak Party President Liaquat Hossain Khoka visited the scene at around 8:30 pm. At this time, he spoke to the family members of the deceased Nurul Islam and inquired about various issues.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) of Narayanganj District Police Chailau Marma said that the three policemen who went to Nurul Islam’s house in connection with the death of Nurul Islam have been withdrawn and attached to the Narayanganj Police Line. They have been withdrawn due to various complaints against them in various newspapers. Allegations are being seriously investigated.
