The court awarded death sentence to two persons and life imprisonment to two persons in the murder case of Mahmuda Akhter (45) of Dakshin Seota area of Manikganj City Stadium Road. Manikganj District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Jayashree Samddar gave this verdict at 11 am on Wednesday in the presence of the accused.
Mahmuda Akhter’s husband Zahirul Islam has filed a case at Manikganj Sadar Police Station accusing five people including his daughter of strangling Mahmuda Akhtar. The accused who were sentenced to death are Md. Rakib Hossain and Md. Mahfuzar Rahman. Rakib is the son of Abdul Barek from Arakul area of South Keraniganj, Dhaka. Mahfuzar Rahman is a native of Jaldhaka East Golmunda village of Nilphamari district. His father’s name is Mominur Rahman. The accused who were sentenced to life are – Julekha Akhtar Jyoti, daughter of deceased Mahmuda Akhtar and Md. Shafiur Rahman Naeem. Naeem’s home is the son of Khorshed Alam in Arakul area of South Keraniganj.
According to the case source, on January 23, 2020, the victim’s husband Zahirul Islam went out for a walk in the morning. When he returned home, he found his wife Mahmuda Akhtar lying dead in a bandage. Later he filed a police report. Sadar police station SI Md. Shamim Al Mamun investigated the case. As the charges were proved, the court sentenced two to death, two to life and one to acquittal.
