Inspector of Special Branch (SB) of Police Mamun postponed the date of taking testimony against fugitive gold trader Arav Khan and other accused in the Imran Khan murder case to November 23.
On Wednesday (November 8), the case was to be heard in Dhaka’s First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Quader’s court. However, due to the blockade called by BNP-Jamaat, the authorities did not produce the accused from the jail. That is why the court fixed this date after the testimony.
Aarav Khan’s accused lawyer Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter.
Out of 38 witnesses in the case, 14 have finished testifying.
Among the other accused in the case are Rabiul’s wife Suraiya Akhtar Kaya (21), Imran’s friend Rahmat Ullah (35), Swapan Sarkar (39), Didar Pathan (21), Mizan Sheikh (21), Atiq Hasan (21), Sarwar Hossain (23). ) and two teenagers Mehrun Nesha Swarna alias Afrin alias Annafi (16) and Faria Binte Meem alias Maisha (16). Among the accused, Rabiul and Suraiya are absconding, Annafi and Maisha are on bail as they are minors and the other accused are in jail. Annafi and Maisha’s trial is going on in the children’s court.
On July 9, 2018, the body of Mamun Imran Khan was recovered from the forest of Gazipur. In that incident, Mamun’s brother Jahangir Alam Khan filed a murder case at the Banani police station of the capital as the plaintiff. The investigating officer of the case, Inspector Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman of the DB Police, filed the charge sheet of the case in the court on April 8, 2019. On November 25, 2021, the court framed charges against the accused.
It is to be noted that Arav Khan was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment, a fine of Tk 10,000 in the case of Arms Act on May 9, and in default of payment, he was sentenced to another three months of imprisonment.
