BNP Vice Chairman Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has called a press conference to highlight his position on the ongoing political situation of the country surrounding the upcoming national elections. According to sources close to him, the press conference will be held at Hafiz’s residence at Banani in the capital today, Wednesday (08 November).

BNP is adamant in its decision not to go to the elections under the Sheikh Hasina government. However, Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud believes that leaders from BNP will participate in the election. At a peace rally organized by Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League last Monday, Hashan Mahmud said that many people are standing in line to join the Trinamool. And another party is going to be led by former minister of BNP and current vice chairman Major (Retd.) Hafiz.

After the information minister’s statement, there has been a renewed interest in politics around Major Hafiz.

Trinamool BNP Chairperson Shamser Mobin Chowdhury said that BNP Vice Chairman Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is not joining Trinamool BNP. He will do something himself.

Earlier, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said in a response to the media on Tuesday afternoon, ‘BNP should go to the elections through international mediation. If the BNP goes to the elections, I will participate in that election.’

He said, “I don’t want to say anything more about this. Government ministers are claiming that you are forming a new party and will participate in the elections.” I see the political situation. I will not say anything more now.’
