Two friends named Ariful Islam and Sauvik Karim were killed after being hit by a truck on New Eskaton Road in the capital. The incident took place on Tuesday night (November 7) when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle from behind on New Eskaton Road.
According to witnesses, shortly after 12 p.m. Ariful Islam was returning home on a motorcycle with his friend Souvik Karim. A truck loaded with bricks rammed from behind while taking Uturn from New Eskaton. 2 people fell on the road instantly. At that time, Arif and Sauvik of the motorcycle fell on the road. The truck did not stop and ran over two people who fell on the road while speeding away.
Deceased Ariful was last working in the publishing house Prakrti and Idana. He was a member of the editorial board of the Mass Solidarity Movement. Before that, the Bangladesh Students’ Federation, who served as the president, had their dead bodies lying on the road till 1:15 a.m. Arif’s wife and relatives rushed to the organization’s leaders and activists after receiving the news. Later the police came and recovered their bodies. He was taken to Dhaka Medical Emergency.
Hatirjheel Police Station OC Shah Md. Awlad Hossain confirmed this information and said that two people on a bike died in a road accident on the road in front of the Eastern Tower. They died on the spot.
