7 members of the same family died on the spot in a head-on collision between a Chittagong city-bound bus and a Fatikchari-bound CNG bus in Hathajari Charia Board School area of Chittagong on the way to Fatikchari Nanpur after the death of a grandmother with sweets and clothes.
Mallika Das, elder sister of deceased Rita Das, told Daily Azadi that they all went to Mijjartek on the south side of Karnaphuli Bridge from Zoara area of Chandnaish Upazila in a CNG auto-rickshaw to go to the post-mortem ceremony of deceased Rita Das’s grandmother with sweets and clothes. Yoge reached the oxygen junction.

The deceased are Rita Dash (40), wife of Omani expatriate Narayan Dash (40), daughter Srabanti Dash (17), speech-impaired daughter Barsha Dash (10) and twin sons Deep Dash (3) and Deepta of the house of Ward No. 4 Dulal Master of Chandanish Upazila. Slave (3). Narayan Das’ elder sister Chinu Das (40) and nephew Sambhu Das’s son Bilpab Das (27).
Narayan Das, a resident of Oman, lost his wife and children and became destitute. At the same time, it is known that he is returning home after losing all his relatives. When he reaches home, the dead bodies will be cremated.
No. 2 Zoara Union Parishad Chairman Amin Ahmed Chowdhury Rokon told Daily Azadi that after receiving the news of the death of 7 people from the same family in my area in a tragic accident, I came to the house of the victims, spoke to the OC of Hathajari police station, and requested that their bodies be handed over to their relatives without post-mortem. On reaching home, arrangements will be made for their cremation at my personal expense.
Chandnaish Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmuda Begum told Daily Azadi, “I came to know about the matter after seeing the news in the media, I will make arrangements to give financial assistance to the families of the victims after talking to the appropriate authorities.”
