The District and Sessions Judge Court has sentenced one Sarwar Habib Russell of Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj to life imprisonment in the case of sending the sacked body of child Tofazzal Hossain (7) after the kidnapping for not paying the money demanded for ransom.
Judge Hemayet Uddin of Sunamganj District and Sessions Judge Court gave this verdict at 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
The accused, sentenced to life imprisonment, is the son of Habibur Rahman of Bashtala village of North Sreepur union of Tahirpur upazila of the district and cousin of the child Tofazzal Hossain.
Advocate Khairul Kabir Rumen, Public Prosecutor of Sunamganj District and Sessions Judge’s Court confirmed the truth of the verdict in the case.
According to Sunamganj District and Sessions Judge Court sources, Tofazzal Hossain, a second class student of madrasa, went missing on January 8, 2020 in Bashtala village of Tahirpur upazila of the district. After searching in many places, the family made a general diary at Tahirpur police station. The next day, a shoe of the missing child Tofajjal and a letter asking for a ransom of 80 thousand rupees were left in front of the child’s house. Two days after this on January 11, 2020, a sacked body of child Tofajjal was found in front of the house of the accused. Later, the father of the deceased child filed a case at Tahirpur police station as a plaintiff.
After the long trial of the case, the court on Tuesday sentenced the accused Sarwar Habib Russell to life imprisonment. The accused was absconding at the time of the verdict.
