Import of potato through Hili land port has increased, prices are falling

Healy Correspondent: A large quantity of potatoes are being imported daily through the Healy land port of Dinajpur. These are being brought from different states of India. Potato prices have started to fall in the retail market due to increased imports. Potatoes, which were sold at the rate of Tk 32 to Tk 35 per kg in the Hili land port wholesale market, are now being sold at the rate of Tk 28 to Tk 31 per kg. And the price of domestic potato has decreased by Tk 10 to Tk 15 per kg.
Today Tuesday (November 7th) the retail market of Hilli was visited, it was seen that the large variety of Katilal potatoes which were sold at the rate of Tk 50 per kg this week, today those potatoes are being sold at the rate of Tk 40 per kg. The price of desi pakri potato per kg has come down from 65 rupees to 50 rupees in a week. Relief is returning to common buyers due to price reduction.
Hili Land Port Import-Export Group President Haroon Ur Rashid Haroon said that 35 companies have received permission (IP) to import potatoes this time. They will import 35 thousand metric tons of potatoes through this port. In a few days, the price of potatoes will come down in the market.
Hili Panama Port Public Relations Officer Sohrab Hossain Malik Pratap said that the port authorities are making arrangements to release the goods as they are raw products. He also said that 2 thousand 718 metric tons of potatoes have been imported in 106 Indian trucks through Hili land port in the last 5 working days.
