A rally in Chittagong has demanded that November 7 be declared ‘Stainless Freedom Fighter Soldier Killing Day’.

This demand was made in the protest rally organized by Chittagong District and Metropolitan Sector Commanders Forum at Dost Building area adjacent to New Market of Chittagong city on Tuesday afternoon.

Bedarul Alam Chowdhury Bedar, Central Joint Organizing Secretary of the organization said, “Most of the soldiers who took part in the alleged sepoy mutiny on that day were Pakistani returnees and none of them were in any battalion that participated in the liberation war.

“So it is clear that the November 7 killings were carried out by the special forces to indulge in conspiracies and heinous murders. And it is very clear to the nation who was behind the special circles. We demand that November 7 be declared as ‘Tainted Freedom Fighter Soldier Killing Day’ by the state.”

Sarfraz Khan Chowdhury Babul, Chittagong Metropolitan President of Sector Commanders Forum, said, “On November 7, two sector commanders and a sub-sector commander were killed publicly for the first time. Another sector commander died by hanging on 21 July 1976 around this 7 November.

“Furthermore, 13 freedom fighter officers were killed within the army. No sector commander lost his life in the war of independence either. But by telling the false history of the so-called revolution and solidarity day, the people were misled by the perpetrators of Bangabandhu murder.”

Chittagong district general secretary of the organization Noore Alam Siddiqui said, “What Ziaur Rahman did after being released from house arrest on that day made this country a new Pakistan again.”

“Especially after the murder of Bangabandhu and his family, four national leaders led by murderers Mushtaq and Zia were killed in jail and hundreds of thousands of freedom fighters were brutally hanged, shot and disappeared until 1981 in the name of justice, and the history of the country was tarnished.”

After the death of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15, 1975, Ziaur Rahman became the army chief. Then there was a military coup led by Khaled Musharraf, one of the sector commanders of the liberation war, and Zia was placed under house arrest.

On November 7, Zia was freed from detention in a counter-coup led by Colonel Taher, one of the sector commanders of the liberation war associated with the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad). Through this he moved to the center of power, later taking over as the country’s first martial law administrator.

After Zia’s release, Taher was hanged in an alleged trial by a military court. Many were killed, including Khaled Musharraf and his companion Major Haider, most of whom were freedom fighters.

BNP observes this day as ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’, Awami League as ‘Freedom Fighter Killing Day’ and Jasad as ‘Soldier-Janata Uprising Day’.
