The court sentenced the stepmother to life imprisonment and a fine of one lakh rupees in the case of killing her stepson in Munshiganj. Judge Khaleda Yasmin Urmi of the Additional District and Sessions Judge 2nd Court of Munshiganj district gave this order on Tuesday afternoon. Sumaiya broke down in tears after the verdict was announced.
According to the case report, on June 11, 2017, stepmother Sumaiya Akhtar strangled her stepson Yasin due to a family dispute in Pawsar village of Sirajdikhan upazila. Later, Yasin’s father Arif Hossain, who was killed on June 17, filed a murder case at Sirajdikhan police station accusing his stepmother Sumaiya Akhter.
Confirming the matter, Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Chief Mohammad Hasan said that after nearly 6 years of judicial proceedings, the court issued the order on Tuesday afternoon. Additional PP Sirajul Islam Paltu handled the case for the state. Meanwhile, Sumaiya’s uncle Abdul Mateen said that he will appeal to the high court against this verdict.
