The opposition candidates complained of rigging in both Laxmipur-3 and Brahmanbaria-2 by-elections.
The Election Commission (EC) has suspended publication of the gazette results of the recently concluded Laxmipur-3 and Brahmanbaria-2 constituencies due to allegations of irregularities in the voting.
EC Secretary Jahangir Alam gave this information in a press conference on Tuesday (November 7).
Voting for two by-elections was held on Sunday (November 5) from 8 am to 4 pm.
In Lakshmipur-3 by-election, Awami League candidate Golam Farooq Pinku won with huge votes. It is reported that the voter turnout in this election was higher than other recent by-elections.
However, two candidates of Jatiya Party and Zaker Party boycotted the Lakshmipur-3 by-election citing vote rigging.
Awami League nominated in Brahmanbaria-2 by-election. Although Shahjahan Alam won, there were reports of low voter turnout in this seat.
Independent candidate Ziaul Haque Mridha complained of vote rigging in some centers in the election.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has started an immediate investigation regarding the public sealing of the boat symbol in the Laxmipur-3 by-election. Earlier, a video of a man stamping on a boat symbol went viral.
On Monday (November 6), returning officer of the by-election and regional election officer of Comilla Farhad Hossain directed the investigation.
