Two inmates died in Jamalpur district jail in one night. They died during treatment at Jamalpur General Hospital on Monday night. Earlier, if they fell ill in prison, they were admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital.
Abu Fahat of Jamalpur Jail district confirmed the death of two inmates around 11:30 on Tuesday.
The deceased are – Shaheen Howladar (40) of Koylakandi area of Charpakerdah Union of Madarganj Upazila. He was accused in a drug case. Another is Yakub Ali (65) from Kangalkursha area of Melandah upazila. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to prison sources, the prisoners Shaheen Howladar and Yakub Ali fell ill at night. After giving first aid in the jail, they were admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital at night. Later, Shaheen Howladar died at 12:46 PM while undergoing treatment. Yakub Ali died around 5:45 in the morning. Shaheen Hawladar was imprisoned in a drug case. Yakub Ali was sentenced to life in the rape case.
Halima Begum, the wife of the deceased Shaheen, said that my husband was taken away by the police while he was sleeping. My husband did not have any drugs at that time. Tonight he called from the jail and said, “My husband is ill and admitted to the hospital.”
Abu Fahat of Jamalpur Jail District said that when two prisoners fell ill at night, they were given first aid and admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital. Later they died while undergoing treatment. One had respiratory problems. Another died of cardiac arrest.
