The owners of the garment sector of the country have proposed a minimum wage of 12 thousand 500 taka for the workers.
Siddiqur Rahman, former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), told reporters that the owners made this proposal at the wage board meeting on Tuesday (November 7).
However, the representatives of the labor side demanded another 500 rupees more.
The minimum wage has not been finalized yet.
The Minimum Wage Board is meeting with stakeholders to finalize the proposal for the new wage structure.

Earlier, the representatives of the factory owners had proposed a monthly wage of Tk 10,400. On the other hand, the proposal of the labor side was 20 thousand 393 taka, but the representatives of the owners rejected it.
Incidentally, the garment workers of the country have been protesting for the last two weeks demanding an increase in the minimum wage.
At least two people were killed and around 40 injured in massive clashes between police and garment workers in some industrial areas of Ashulia, Savar and Gazipur on October 30.
Later, the respective factory authorities filed 3 separate cases in Ashulia police station on the charges of vandalizing 3 factories and beating up officials and employees in Ashulia, Dhaka.
In the cases, 1500 persons, including workers, have been made anonymous defendants on charges of incitement and vandalism.
