Yesterday, he boarded the Sherpur-bound Fayaz and Taj bus from Gazipur Chowrasta at around 11:15 pm to go home to the village.
Shafiqul said that the driver was driving the bus at excessive speed since crossing Gazipur. It had several accidents. Because of this, the passengers repeatedly asked the driver to drive slowly. But the driver was driving recklessly without hearing anything. And because of this, the bus lost control and met with an accident.
Four people were killed and at least 40 injured in this bus accident on Digharkanda-bypass road in Mymensingh city.
The accident happened on Monday (November 6) around 12:30 pm in Shikarikanda area of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. The injured passengers are admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Kamal Akand confirmed this information. However, initially the names and identities of the casualties were not known.
Eyewitnesses said that a Sherpur-bound bus named Fayaz and Taj from Dhaka hit a pickup van while overtaking in Shikarikanda area. The pickup van overturned and fell on the side of the road. Meanwhile, the bus lost control and climbed on the divider of the highway and hit the pillar of the billboard there. The billboard collapsed and the front of the bus was badly damaged. Three people died on the spot and one more at Mymensingh Medical.
Assistant Director of Mymensingh Fire Service. Masud Sardar said, we rushed to the spot after receiving the news of the accident at 12:40. Later, policemen along with our five units came and did rescue work. The injured have been rescued and sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and work is underway to remove the stricken bus and the collapsed billboard from the road.
