Shahjahan Ali Moral (60), chairman of Gadkhali Union Parishad (UP) of Jessore’s Jhikargacha upazila, died after being hit by a train.
The accident took place on the railway line in Syedpara area of the upazila at around 8 o’clock in the morning on Tuesday.

Gadkhali UP member Sheikh Anwarul Islam confirmed this to The Daily Star.
He said that chairman Shahjahan woke up early in the morning and went out for a walk in the morning like every day. This morning he left home and was coming towards the market after his morning walk over Syedpara railway line. He was suddenly hit by a speeding train coming from behind and died on the spot. Later, the local people saw the chairman lying beside the railway line and informed the police.
Master of Benapole railway station. Saiduzzaman said that he died after being hit by the Benapole Express train coming from Dhaka. Railway police recovered his body and sent it to Jessore General Hospital for post-mortem.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhikargacha Police Station Suman Bhakta said that Shahjahan, the current chairman of Gadkhali Union Parishad, died after being hit by a train. His body was recovered and handed over to the Railway Police.
Shahjahan Ali Moral was also the president of Gadkhali Union Awami League.
