The elder brother was killed by the younger brother due to a dispute over land in Baufal of Patuakhali. The incident took place in North Daspara village of Daspara union of the upazila on Monday afternoon. Deceased Ruhul Amin Akon (54) used to earn his livelihood by managing land in the village.
According to related sources, Ruhul Amin had been in dispute with his younger brother Rezaul Karim Akan (45) over the division of ancestral property for a long time.
On Monday afternoon, younger brother Rezaul requested elder brother Ruhul Amin to distribute his share of property. A quarrel started between the two brothers on this issue. At one point the two brothers brought 2 sharp knives from the house and started attacking both of them. During the incident, their nephew Rubel (35) came forward to restrain both of them and he was also hacked. After taking 3 people to Baufal Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty declared Ruhul Amin dead. Rezaul Karim and their nephew Rubel were sent to Barisal Sherbangla Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Baufal Health Complex’s emergency department doctor Dr. Diba Debnath told reporters that the bodies of the dead and injured have multiple sharp weapon injuries.
Baufal police station OC Arichul Haque said that after the recovery of the body, it has to be sent to Patuakhali Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Rezaul and Rubel are under police surveillance. If complaint is received, necessary action will be taken subject to investigation.
