The Chairman of Baharampur Union Parishad (UP) of Dasmina Upazila of Patuakhali, accused of killing his second wife. Asaduzzaman Sohag and six people have been charged with murder. His wife’s elder brother. Moniruzzaman Biplab filed the case at the Patuakhali Women and Child Torture Court on Monday afternoon.
Taking cognizance of the case, Judge Nilufa directed Dashmina Police Station to take Yasmin’s statement. The other accused in the case are – Chairman’s elder brother Upazila Jubo League joint general secretary Kamrul Islam, cousin Dipu Mrdha, Jasim Mrdha, brother-in-law Rabiul Mrdha and Rakib Mrdha.
The police recovered the body of Moushumi Akhter (35), the chairman’s wife, from the four-storey bathroom of a building in Nalkhola of Upazila Sadar last Sunday afternoon. His relatives claim that he was killed. However, the chairman’s relatives think that he committed suicide.
After the post-mortem, relatives brought Moushumi’s body home yesterday evening. At that time, his eldest son of the first family, ninth grade student Nafis Fuad Swadhin (14), middle son fifth grade student Abdullah Al Mimo (10) and daughter Meherima (5) and other relatives broke down in tears.

He alleged that Chairman Sohag has been abusing his sister since he forced her to marry him. He had to be admitted to the hospital several times due to torture. Moushumi’s elder sister Khuki Akhtar alleged that Chairman Sohag regularly abused her sister by taking drugs mentally and physically. His sister was killed.
According to Moushumi’s first husband Ferdaus Hossain’s sister Khadija Begum, Chairman Sohag forcibly took Moushumi two years ago. Sohag married her and lived in Dasmina Sadar. He also complained, ‘Often I used to get reports of physical abuse on Moushumi Bhabhi. But there was nothing we could do. My brother’s three children became orphans.’

Dasmina Police Station OC Md. Anwar Hossain Talukder said that the copy of the case filed in the court has not yet reached the police station. A case of wrongful death has been registered at the police station in this incident. Investigation is ongoing.
Chairman Sohag’s statement was not available as the phone was switched off. However, his cousin Rabiul Hossain claimed that he (Sohag) went to the Union Parishad to distribute VGD’s rice in the morning. On hearing the news, he returned home and broke the door of the flat to find his wife’s body and informed the police. According to him (Rabiul), Moushumi committed suicide.
