Arrested Harun Miah has accepted responsibility for the hacking of Mahbubar Rahman, Chairman of Payaraband Union Parishad (UP) and Jamaat leader of Rangpur’s Mithapukur Upazila. In the police interrogation, he said that he had given justice to the UP Chairman regarding a family dispute. However, because of not being judged, he became angry and committed this incident.
On Monday, the police sent Haroon to jail through the court. In this incident, Labib Rahman, the chairman’s son, filed a murder case with the police station, making him the sole accused. Mahbubar Rahman was buried in the family cemetery after the funeral on Monday afternoon.
It is known that the victim of the murder, Mahbubar Rahman (65), was the vice-president of Rangpur District Labor Welfare Federation, an affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami. He is the former secretary of Upazila Jamaat. Her funeral was held at Payaraband Begum Rokeya Memorial Girls High School grounds on Monday afternoon.
Leaders and activists of various levels of Rangpur and Dinajpur District Jamaat and locals participated in it. The leaders and activists of the party demanded maximum punishment for the killers of the UP chairman.
Mustafizar Rahman, OC of Mithapukur police station, said that a person named Harun Mia (45) of Sadarpur village hacked the chairman with a sharp stick on Sunday night. He was arrested and brought to the police station with the help of local people. He is a drug addict and physically weak. In the initial interrogation, he admitted the responsibility of killing the UP chairman.
The OC said that a few days ago he had given justice to the chairman regarding family matters. But was angry at not being judged. He said that he did this because of this.
Note that UP Chairman has a pharmacy shop in Payaraband Bazar. After closing the shop at around 9 pm, Harun approached Bhai with a stick from his fish shop.
At this time, Harun punched the chairman’s throat from behind. Locals rescued him with serious injuries and admitted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. He died around 10 pm.
