10 people testified in the court in one day in the sensational Mitu murder case of Chittagong. On Monday (November 6), Chittagong’s third additional metropolitan session judge Md. Their testimony was taken in Jasim Uddin’s court. Mitu’s husband former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhtar and other accused were present in the court.
The testifiers in the court are Sohail Rana, Engineer of Epic Health Care of Chittagong, Manager (Admin) Tarek Hossain, Manager of Jumaira Holdings of Katalganj Atiq Hasan, Caretaker of the same organization Sahab Uddin, Manager of Hotel Well Park Moinul Hasan, Officer of that organization Bishwanath Dash, IT Officer of Well Food Shahidul Alam and employee Alauddin and former Metropolitan Intelligence Police ASI Nazrul Islam and Constable Milton Dey.
Among them, DB ASI Nazrul Islam and Constable Milton Dey collected CCTV footage from various places of the incident and the rest provided CCTV footage and were eyewitnesses.
Advocate Abdur Rashid, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the Metropolitan Sessions Court, told Dhaka Post that a total of 32 people have been testified so far in the Mitu murder case. Today (Monday) 10 people’s testimony has been taken. Two of them were interrogated by the defense lawyers. The rest were not interrogated. The next date of the case has been fixed on November 28. The testimony of 10 people will be taken on that day as well.
It is known that on the morning of June 5, 2016, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was shot and stabbed to death by miscreants on his way to drop his son in the school bus at Nizam Road in Chittagong city. At that time, this incident was widely discussed throughout the country. Mitu’s husband Superintendent of Police Babul Akter was staying in Dhaka at the time of the incident. After the incident, returning to Chittagong, the then Superintendent of Police and Mitu’s husband Babul Akhter filed a murder case against unknown persons in Panchlaish police station.
However, in the case, PBI found the involvement of husband Babul Akhtar in the murder of his wife. The final report was submitted in the earlier case on May 12, 2021. On the same day, Mitu’s father, former police inspector Mosharraf Hossain, filed the second case at Panchlaish police station of Chittagong city with Babul Akhtar as the main accused. On the same day, PBI sent Babul Akhtar to the court after arresting him in the case. Babul is in jail since then.
Meanwhile, Babul’s lawyer filed a complaint on October 14, 2021 against the final report given by PBI in the first case. In view of the application, on November 3 of the same year, Naraji dismissed the PBI report and ordered further investigation into the case. After that, PBI started investigating both the cases. However, later on, as per the court’s instructions, the final report of the case filed by Mitu’s father was given on January 25 last year. Then on September 13 of the same year, after further investigation, the first case was submitted to the court accusing 7 people including Babul.
In the discussed case on March 13, the court ordered to start the trial by forming charges against seven accused including Babul Akhtar.
