Majortila market and its surrounding residential areas were spared from the major accident in Sylhet. There is a danger of this accident if the gas line pipe bursts while working on the water line. At this time, the Sylhet-Tamabil road was closed to traffic for about two hours.
On Monday (November 6) around 3:30 in the afternoon, while working on the Sylhet City Corporation’s water line on the side of the road in Majortila of the metropolis, when an excavator hit the gas distribution pipe, the pipe burst and the gas flowed out at a high speed.
Talking to the workers of CCIC, it is known that water pipe installation is being done in Majortila market. Around 3:30 pm, the gas pipe burst due to the impact of the earthmoving machine (excavator) and the gas started coming out at a high speed. Instant panic spread among the market traders and pedestrians.
Officials of Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited (JGTDSL) rushed to the spot and stopped traffic on Sylhet-Tamabil road with bamboo. Later, around 5:30 p.m., the pipe gas flow was stopped.
Meanwhile, the DGM of Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited (JGTDSL), who came to the spot, did not give any official statement.
