A radio host has been shot dead while on air in the Philippines. The victim’s name is Juan Jumalon. He is also known as DJ Johnny Walker.
According to the BBC report, Johnny was in a program that was broadcast live on Facebook around 5:30 am local time on Sunday. That’s when the suspected killer entered his recording booth and opened fire.
Calamba municipality police chief Capt. Deore Ragonyo said Juan Jumalon, 57, was in his home studio on the southern island of Mindanao when a gunman shot him in the head.
The police said that they have already collected footage from various CCTV cameras around Johnny’s house to identify the killer. Johnny was rushed to the hospital by his wife after being shot. But the doctors said that Johnny died before reaching the hospital.
According to the National Union for Journalists of the Philippines, four journalists have been killed since Marcos Jr. became president in June 2022.
Philippine President Marcos Jr. strongly condemned the killing.
