Photo: Today’s NewspaperA supporter of Union Parishad Chairman and Jamaat leader Mahbubar Rahman died of a heart attack after hearing the news of the death of Union Parishad Chairman and Jamaat leader Mahbubar Rahman in Rangpur’s Mithapukur.

That Jamaat leader was killed last Sunday night. His supporter Rafiqul Islam died after hearing the news.

On Monday afternoon, the bodies of the chairman and Rafiqul Islam were buried in the family graveyard in Zafarpur village after the funeral prayers at Begum Rokeya Smriti Balika Vidyalaya ground in Payarabande of Mithapukur upazila.

Accused Harun Mia was sent to jail by the court. Mithapukur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mostafizar Rahman confirmed the matter.

Upazila Chairman Zakir Hossain Sarkar, UNO Rakibul Hasan, OC Mostafizar Rahman and a large number of people participated in the funeral prayers.

Payaraband Union Parishad Chairman Mahbubar Rahman was killed by a young man named Harun Miah with a sharp weapon in the Payaraband market of the upazila on Sunday night. Immediately after the incident, locals arrested Harun Mia and handed him over to the police. After hearing the news of the Chairman’s death, Rafiqul Islam died of a heart attack at night. Locals say that the accused Harun Mia is addicted to drugs. However, the reason for killing the chairman is not yet known.
