Low-income people are now uncomfortable with the price of potatoes and eggs in the market of rising commodity prices. However, the government has recently increased imports to control prices. In the meantime, the import of potatoes from India has affected the market of the capital. The price of eggs has also decreased.
Potatoes are now being sold at Tk 55-60 per kg in the capital’s retail market due to the import of potatoes. New potatoes are also starting to arrive. Price per kg is 140 rupees.
Traders of caravan market said that Indian potato has not reached the market yet. Imported potatoes can be available in stores within 1-2 days. The price of Indian potato will be 31 to 33 rupees per kg depending on the quality. The supply from the cold store is also increasing.
Meanwhile, a downward trend has been seen in egg prices. Market prices have fallen on the news of imports from India. However, even though the price has come down in the wholesale market, its impact has not yet reached the retail market. A dozen eggs are still Tk 140 in wholesale. However, retail stores are selling at 160 to 170 taka. It is said that if the supply increases compared to the demand, the price will decrease.
Meanwhile, imported eggs entered the country for the first time through Benapole port. After LC and export charges, port charges, C&F charges, transportation charges, the cost of each egg will be 9 and a half to 10 taka.
