Barahnagar municipality has started charging fees for collecting waste from residents’ houses. The municipal authority took the first decision in this regard last May. But due to various reasons it could not be launched for so long. However, since November 1, this method has been introduced, and the city authorities claim that it is getting good response.

According to Barahnagar Municipality sources, 28 thousand 420 rupees have been collected for waste collection fee in the last three days. As many different families as there are in each house in Barahnagar, 20 rupees per month will be taken from all of them. 86076 such families have been identified. It will earn 1721520 taka per month for the municipality. According to the city officials, the system of collecting the fee online has also been introduced in addition to giving it in hand. There has been a delay of several months in implementing this fee plan while completing the process of launching that portal.

Dilipnarayan Basu, vice chairman of Barahnagar, said, “Increasing income is not the only goal. The idea is to keep the whole area clean. Because, many times residents are seen throwing garbage everywhere. Its main objective is to stop it.” So that the residents also think that when I give money, I will throw garbage in the municipal vehicle. As the area will be beautiful, it will be possible to reduce environmental pollution. According to the municipal authorities, blue and green colored buckets have been provided by the municipality to separate the biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. But even after that none of the townspeople had any heldol. But this time, the municipality hopes that residents will be aware that they will have to pay for garbage collection.

According to the municipal authorities, the municipal workers have started collecting this ‘user fee’ or practical value as per the Solid Waste Management Act (2016) and the State Municipal Corporation Act (1993). ‘Nirmal Sathi’ project workers are going to every house to collect it. Receipt for the fee is also being given.
