Five members of the same family were burnt in a gas leakage explosion in a house in Rupganj, Narayanganj. They have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Three of the burn victims have been admitted to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) as their condition is critical.
The incident took place at a house near Awkab Bazar in Rupganj around 11 pm on Friday. The injured are – Ali Ahmed (65), his wife Hasna Banu (55), daughter Sahara Begum (24), son Omar Farooq (18) and brother-in-law Sona Uddin (45).
Hormaj Ali, another son of Oli Ahmed, who brought the burnt victims to the hospital, said, ‘I was outside at the time of the incident. In our family cooking is done with gas cylinders. After receiving the news, I went home and found out that there was a fire with a loud sound. No one can tell the real story. Later, we quickly rescued them and brought them to the emergency department of Sheikh Hasina Burns.
Tariqul Islam, resident doctor of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery confirmed the truth of the incident. He said, ‘They were brought to our emergency department around 1 o’clock last night. Out of this, Sona Uddin got 90 percent burns, Oli Ahmed got 58 percent burns, Hasna Banu got 46 percent burns, Sahara Begum got 30 percent burns and Omar Farooq got 15 percent burns.
Tariqul Islam said, ‘Sona Uddin, Ali Ahmed and Hasna Banu are in critical condition and have been kept in the hospital’s intensive care unit. Others have been kept under observation in the emergency department.’
