One of the organizers of the liberation war, former presidium member of Awami League, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu’s 11th death anniversary is today Saturday (November 4).
On this occasion, his family, upazila administration, Awami League and various political and social organizations will hold a day-long program. Programs include – Khatme Quran, Milad Mahfil, Grave Pilgrimage, Special Prayers, Wreath Offering and Tabaruk distribution.
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was the president of Chittagong South District Awami League for a long time. Elected Member of National Parliament four times. In the 9th National Parliament, he was the President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Jute Textiles Ministry.
He was born in 1945 in Haildhar village of Anwara. His father’s name is Nuruzzaman Chowdhury. Mother Khorsheda Begum. After passing SSC from Patia High School in 1958, Akhtaruzzaman Babu got admission in Notre Dame College. Later studied at Illinois University of Science and Technology, New York University.
He joined Awami League in 1967. In the general election of 1970, he became a member of the Provincial Council from Anwara and West Patia. When the war of liberation started, he went to India and performed various duties of the Bangladesh government in exile. He was a member of the Relief and Rehabilitation Committee of the Mujibnagar Government.
