A student of textile department of Daffodil University in Dattapara area of Khagan in Savar was called and beaten up and died while undergoing treatment. In this incident, students vandalized about two hundred shops in that area.
The incident took place at Khagan area of Savar’s Birulia Union at around 6 pm on Friday (November 3). At that time, they (students) bought petrol from the shop and set fire to the shop’s benches and wooden equipment. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.
The name of the deceased student is Hasibul Islam Antar. He is a 44th batch student of Textile Department of Daffodil University. His village home is said to be Mymensingh.
Residents and students said that Antar, a student of Daffodil University’s textile department, was picked up by some people from Akrain Bazar and beaten severely on October 27. Later they leave the heart in the Khaghan. After receiving the news, he was rescued and first admitted to Raju Hospital in Ashulia. When his condition deteriorated there, he was admitted to Enam Medical in Savar for better treatment. Later, he was admitted to a hospital in Mymensingh under the supervision of his family and died yesterday (November 2) while undergoing treatment there. Since then there was tension among the students. Later this evening students vandalized around two hundred shops in the university area.
Mohammed Ali, the victim of the attack, told Dhaka Post that the students bought petrol from a petrol shop in Akrain Bazar and set fire to the bench in front of the shop. Besides, more than two hundred shops were vandalized. But they did not attack anyone.
He also said that they came to my hotel and ambushed. We do not know the reason for the attack.
Savar Model Police Station Inspector (OC) Deepak Chandra Saha told Dhaka Post that a team has been sent to the spot after receiving information. At present the situation is normal. Two persons, including Rahat, the main accused in the student murder case, have been arrested.
Daffodil International University Director (Student Department) Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju told Dhaka Post that on October 27, the students of the textile department of the university had a problem with the locals. When he was beaten and injured in this incident, he was sent to Mymensingh under the supervision of Antar’s family. He died yesterday while being admitted to a hospital.
He further said that the students protested today demanding exemplary punishment of those involved. We have learned that the police have arrested two accused persons in this incident.
