According to Central Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sources, the gold crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border and entered India. Then the plan was to smuggle the gold biscuits from Tripura via Guwahati by train. DRI conducted a raid at New Jalpaigur station on Wednesday night after getting to know the matter based on information from secret sources. After that, DRI arrested the first two persons named Ankit Tak and Kamlesh Ghanchi from the Raschkranthi Express which was standing at the station. Both are residents of Rajasthan. A luggage bag was recovered from them Four gold biscuits wrapped in a packet were recovered.

It weighs about 1 kg 768 grams. Which has an estimated market value of Rs 1 Crore 7 Lakhs. The arrested were produced in Siliguri court on Thursday. Government lawyer Ratan Vanik said, “Rejecting the bail plea of ​​the arrested, they ordered 14 days of jail custody. The plan was to smuggle the gold biscuits to Kolkata. The DRI is investigating whether anyone else is involved in the incident.”

On the other hand, the Special Task Force (STF) of the state police foiled the plan to smuggle a large quantity of ganja by making a secret chamber inside the pickup van. STF raided Matigara near Siliguri after receiving information from secret sources on Thursday and recovered about one and a half quintal of ganja. The estimated market value of recovered ganja is around Rs 15 lakh. STF has arrested two persons named Pradeep Sarkar, a resident of Station Chowpathi, Cooch Behar and Sudeep Das, a resident of Pundibari in the incident.

The ganja was being taken from Nishiganj in Cooch Behar for smuggling to Bihar. STF DSP (North Bengal) Sudeep Bhattacharya said, “In preliminary interrogation, the arrested have named several others. Their motive is also on. The arrested will be produced in the court on Friday and questioned. A case of drug trafficking has been registered at Matigara police station. Who else is involved in this incident?” It is being investigated.”
