The death of a student of Daffodil International University in Savar’s Ashulia campus has come under fire. On the news of the death of the student named Hasibul Islam Antar, angry students came down on the road on Friday (October 3) evening. They burnt the tires there and stopped the traffic. Locals claim that at this time they ransacked the shops. Later the police went and brought the situation under control. Although the situation is now calm, additional police have been deployed.
Hasibul Islam is a fourth year student of textile engineering department of 44th batch of Daffodil International University, Antar Savar. His village home is in Mymensingh district.
Daffodil International University Director (Student Department) Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju said that on October 27, some local youth called Antar and took him under the Birulia Bridge. From there the locals rescued him unconscious and first took him to Daffodil Care. Antar was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital when his condition deteriorated. Later, the injured student was admitted to a hospital in Mymensingh under the supervision of his family, and he died while undergoing treatment on Thursday.
On the news of Antar’s death, hundreds of students of Daffodil International University in Ashulia gathered in Akran market with batons today (November 3) evening. Police say, at that time, the angry students vandalized the furniture of several shops in the market. When the locals prevented it, the two sides started a back and forth chase.
Locals claimed that the students set fire to Birulia’s regional road and vandalized around a hundred shops. Later, the situation calmed down when the police reached the spot and evacuated the students. However, the situation is now stagnant. Additional police have been deployed there.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station Deepak Chandra Saha said, ‘A case has been registered in the case of the student’s murder. The main accused Rahat was arrested early this morning and sent to the court. There he gave a statement under section 164.
OC Deepak said that the details of the release of the arrest will be given in the press conference tomorrow on Saturday.
